Our Story at JIATÉ
At JIATÉ, every cup of tea and every dish tells a story – a story deeply rooted in Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage and the founder's personal journey.
The founder, originally from Taiwan, moved to Belgium almost 20 years ago, starting her journey in the province of Antwerp. After years of working in the EU affairs sector in Brussels, she fell in love with the dynamic, multicultural spirit of the city, often referred to as the "Brussels Bubble." This vibrant, welcoming energy fueled her passion for creating a space where cultures converge.
Having experienced the beauty of cultural diversity in Brussels, the founder wanted to create more than just another tea lounge. She envisioned JIATÉ as a cultural hub where people from all walks of life could gather to experience the warmth and richness of Taiwanese culture. A place where the authentic flavors of Taiwan, with its unique blend of tradition and innovation, are shared with a wider audience, and where cultural exchange is encouraged.
JIATÉ is not just about food and drink – it's about creating an immersive experience. From traditional Taiwanese teas and wellness drinks to delicious street food and light snacks, JIATÉ offers a taste of Taiwan that will transport you straight to the heart of the island. We also host workshops and themed nights, from Mahjong evenings to karaoke sessions, to explore Taiwanese culture in a fun and engaging way.
From Dust to Dream: The One-Year Journey
The story of JIATÉ isn’t just about culture – it’s also about courage. In April 2024, the founder found a neglected, uninspiring space tucked away in Brussels’ EU district. It was far from beautiful – but it sparked a vision. That was the start of a one-year journey of transformation filled with challenges she never imagined.
From an empty shell to a warm, welcoming, minimalist-modern teahouse, the space was completely reinvented. Construction hurdles, endless decisions, financial pressure, and emotional exhaustion tested her every step. But with persistence, the dream took shape – every corner of JIATÉ was built with heart.
The interior reflects her identity: born in Asia, but shaped by life in the West. JIATÉ’s design blends Asian warmth with Western simplicity – an intentional balance that reflects her belief that the best things in life come from mixing worlds, not choosing between them.
What began as a vision is now a beautiful, cozy space where people gather, connect, and celebrate culture. From nothing to something meaningful – this is JIATÉ.
